It isn't only beginners who have a hard time in the classroom. My wife has twelve years experience in teaching maths (what you call math); she loves her subject and wishes she could spend more time teaching it rather than helping her students with their social problems. But she would still say that a teaching career is very rewarding.

I've never seen The Substitute, but I know they made some very low-budget sequels.

Subbing is where those who want to be teachers and those who chose the wrong career path get weeded out, methinks. You'll do fine, and if not, a teaching degree is still a great degree to have. It's very easily adapted to other fields.

Although I have not substituded yet and only student taught I feel that pain. I've worked with many subs while my coopertating teacher was gone. Most subs don't have an art background, and I can't see myself going into another classroom such as math. That would be horrible, one I don't know the subject well and two based upon one how do I engage the students when I myself find the topic boring. I think going into subing I would have to build a bag of tricks to bring with me to any classroom. Some of these tricks just come with experience; so the first of many sub jobs I think will be playing the role of a babysitter until I can get the knack down. Or watch The Substitute staring Tom Berenger.
