There is just something about the VW that's addictive....I dont know if its the German design, or the sturdiness of it, but when I ride in a volkswagon, I feel a sense of safety...unlike any other vehicles out there....had 3 VW, cant wait for my fourth....of course, the new GTI....

Ha! You should have bought it back from the kid -- I'm sure at that point he was so fed up with it that he'd give it to you for nothing!

Great post. I'm familiar with odd vehicle crushes as well.

For me, it was the last generation Ford Probe. I wanted one for years, and when I started dating my now-wife, I bought a '94 GT thinking it would impress her. It didn't , but she married me anyway.

I loved that car. I raced it Autocross events, and I still get misty thinking about it.

Two years after I sold it (at my wife's insistence), I saw it parked at the Get N Go on Louise and 229. I recognized it from the SCCA sticker in the window I had put there.

I ran in to find the kid to whom I sold it...only to find he had hitch-hiked home to Watertown after it broke down.

Too bad. Loved that car. Still do.
