I have never read a Potter novel, though I would love to. Your post has got me thinking about fiction series in general, and how we bond to them. Looking back, here are the series in my past:

The James Bond novels, by Ian Fleming.
Quite simply the greatest fiction I will ever read. I was thrilled to find that last years movie "Casino Royale" was so faithful to the novel, Fleming's very first.

The Xanth Series, by Piers Anthony
Read them in high school. Loved the word play in them.

The Alphabet Mysteries, by Sue Grafton
The latest one just came one. "S is for Silence."

And that's it, I'm sad to say. Two series that I'd like to complete are the Potter books and the Narnia series by C.S. Lewis.

Someday.

(In writing this post, I struggled with the the plural for "series." So I went looking, and found this:

Series is both a singular and a plural form. When it has the singular sense of "one set," it takes a singular verb, even when series is followed by of and a plural noun: A series of lectures is scheduled. When it has the plural sense of "one or more sets," it takes a plural verb: Two series of lectures are scheduled: one for experts and one for laypeople.

Interesting.)
