If you like writing for writing’s sake, Ford is great. His writing is fantastic — unique and polished, very well done. He does a wonderful job of portraying characters and events in a dry, hilarious light. But not a lot *happens* in Independence Day, and my guess is that the same can be said of The Sportswriter. His books just aren’t really page turners. And it’s a bit difficult to relate to the middle-age angst thing he has going on.

All in all, I’m glad I read it, but I won’t read it again, and I probably won’t read any of his other stuff. There’s just too much else out there to get bogged down by a writer like this.
