One of the few things that I'm thankful for when my grandfather passed away was that, once it hit his brain (he had lung cancer, but it spread to his brain) he died shortly after that. With little confusion.

A hard week of waiting, but thankfully it was only a week.

That was amazing.

I'm in the same situation right now with my mother. She's slowly slipping into dementia. Every time I tell her that her mother (my grandmother) died 25 years ago, she's as devastated as if hearing it for the first time.

I've stopped telling her. When she asks how Grandma is doing, I just say "Fine."
