How to create your own Black Marks on Wood Pulp

Step One: Facilitation. Hate your job. Enjoy writing. Look for a way to combine a new job with an old love.

Step Two: Realization. Become intrigued by blogging. Realize this is a way to write to an audience and hone your craft. Ask friend to set up blog for you.

Step Three: Construction. Adapt Wordpress theme by changing header. Find quote that sums up your desire to write to an audience. (For example, Ursula Le Guin: “The unread story is not a story; it is little black marks on wood pulp. The reader, reading it, makes it live: a live thing, a story.”) Steal part of quote to name site.

Step Four: Publication. Write a lot of stuff. Write commentary about anything: your life, playoff basketball, being a father, stupid Radio Shack. Repeat.

Step Five: Capitalization. Get job where you write all day. Find out later job was given to you in large part because of your proficiency in blogging. Make money off of your blog. (Results inconclusive.)
